Swan Energy Center

650 MW in Bates County, Missouri

About the Swan Energy Center

Clearway Energy Group is partnering with independent, local landowners to build the Swan Energy Center in Bates County, Missouri. Located on an old strip mine near the Kansas border, this new solar facility will generate economic power throughout the county.

The project will also deliver low-cost, reliable power into the regional grid. The energy output from the plant will be enough to meet 200,000 average US homes' electricity each year.

Clearway strives to be a good, long-term neighbor by taking care of the land and getting involved in the community. Please get in touch with any questions or comments using the form below, or by emailing swan@clearwayenergy.com.

Building a stronger Bates County

The Swan Energy Center is bringing new energy infrastructure, job opportunities and revenue for public services into Bates County.

Private Investment: Clearway Energy is making a major investment to build new energy infrastructure for the regional grid, entirely funded by private capital. Construction and operations activity will create additional ripple effects into the local economy through spending on equipment and services. No tax dollars will go into building this project.

Revenue for local government: The project will contribute at least $35 million to the Bates County budget over its lifetime. This creates new support for the schools, first responders, and other public services.

Job opportunities: The solar farm will create more than 800 construction jobs, creating opportunities for local workers. Several long-term technician positions will be available once the project comes online.

Landowner partnerships: Clearway has partnered with local families to lease land south of Amsterdam in northwestern Bates County. These landowners will earn reliable income for decades while preserving their land for future generations.

Caring for the land & our neighbors

The Swan Energy Center is committed to being a respectful, long-term community member. That means being a thoughtful steward of the land and a considerate neighbor. Learn about our best practices for making a positive impact.
